On Friday 17th and Saturday
18th March 2000
the Oxted Players presented their first ever
youth production, the musical version of:
"The Railway Children"
A few words from the
Director, Mrs June brown:
"It has been a great privilege for me as Chairman to be directing
our first major youth production, The Railway children.
This was always a special book for me as a child, as I am sure
it is with many children, Mums and Grans in the audience.
This adaption, from the novel by E. Nesbit, is a new theatre music
work by Jonathan Rhodes and Mitch Jenkins, seen by some
of the Oxted Players during the Edinburgh Festival in 1998.
We were then thinking of setting up our own youth section
and thought it would be just the the type of production
to get them off to a flying start.
As a Society we are fortunate to have so many enthusiastic
and talented youngsters to draw upon.
The cast has worked particularly hard throughout rehearsals,
and I cannot praise them enough. All aspects of putting on
a production have been "shadowed" and this, we hope,
will help those taking up theatre studies for GCSE.
I would also like to extend my grateful thanks to all those who
have assisted with this production - it certainly has been a team effort.
Lucy Coward: Mrs Waterbury
